Some stuff about what goes on here at green planet HQ

Greener Thinking

While waiting to be loaded up from a client of ours today, I started reading through their company profile. Inside it was details of how they are keeping things green and reading this gave me an opportunity for all at GPL to become greener so I was over the moon. The firm is DS Print & Redesign www.dsprintandredesign.com and the novel way of saving the planet is through Soya Based Printing Ink. Now obviously DS use far more ink and paper than we ever will but 80% of their paper is recycled and another 10% is Chlorine free so well done to the guys at DS!

It’s that time of year when presents and gifts need to be sent to loved ones across the country so if we can do anything to safely deliver your gifts please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Season’s greetings from at GPL

Good afternoon one all,

Green Planet will now be micro blogging with helpings of little and often for the blog. Hopefully this will keep our friends, clients and nosy parkers up to speed with the world of eco friendly logistics. I’d like to start with us at GPL moving to pastures new. We’re looking for office/storage space to house our growing fleet. Not only this, we’re trying hard to look for a landlord actively promoting renewable resources within their properties. Recycling waste, paper and water. Using low efficiency light bulbs and heating sources, insulated walls and roofs are all small ways to be greener.Naturally this is challenge we face in the green world but we can only try. If we can’t find the green building we’re looking for we’ll have to add a little green planet magic to our individual space!  I’d also like to draw attention to the fact that we have now been trading for 1 year as our first birthday has recently passed. There have been ups and downs but we started with 1 small van sipping bio diesel in small spurts and now have a growing fleet of LPG and Diesel vans powered by almost carbon neutral Bio Diesel. We still have a long way to go but our reputation is growing, our prices aren’t rising and we’re doing our bit!  Catch up soon

July

Welcome everyone to Green Planet Logistics July edition of our monthly blog. Yet again, with life on the road busier that ever, we've found it difficult to find the time to keep you all informed through our regular blog! We know you all wait with great anticipation for them to arrive in your inbox, so we can only apologise! We have continued to grow steadily and sustainably throughout the past couple of months, winning more new customers and building on our good relationships with those businesses already using us. Our jobs continue to vary, from single envelopes, to van loads of timber! Both our vehicle fleet and number of employees has continued to grow, and we are now averaging the highest number of deliveries per day since we began! Our customer response time is getting shorter and shorter, and we have grown sufficiently to be confident of having drivers out to our customers within an hour at the most, 7 days a week! With the hot weather here, we've seen deliveries of garden furniture and outdoor items soar! We've been busy delivering such items on behalf of one of our regular customers, Andrew Banks at The Wood Gallery. He specialises in high quality garden furniture and hardwood decking. The Wood Gallery share a similar ethos to ourselves here at Green Planet. Andrew's wood is a hardwearing and sustainable raw material, helping to reduce his own and his customer’s environmental impact.  Check out his website www.thewoodgallery.co.ukAs always, if there is anything that needs shifting, no matter how big or small, urgent or otherwise, you know where we are!Until next time, enjoy the sunshine, and keep it green!

April

Welcome everyone to Green Planet Logistics April edition of our monthly blog. I apologise it’s been a little while since we’ve written here but we’ve been extremely busy and writing our blog has had to take a back seat!! With Danny and Ed busy on the front line, the entry this month has been left to me again!!

We continue to progress well in these hard economic times and in tough market conditions which I feel is testament to us all and the hard work we are putting in. This also illustrates the value for money we are able to offer our customers, allowing us to continue to expand and progress. We are yet to turn down a job no matter how big or small and hopefully we won’t have to. Our standard of work and customer service are winning us new clients and keeping existing clients happy and we must continue these traits.

April saw us venture into the van market once again as we added another mid size van to our fleet. The new van, as with all of our vehicles, can run on Bio Diesel. Adding more long wheel base vans like this to our larger Luton style vans means that we can continue to tailor each job we have with the correct size vehicle, thus cutting our carbon footprint again.

I mentioned in our last entry that we have been using Bio Diesel from uptown oil. We have just found a new supplier in north London which has made life a little easier for us to use the much cleaner and more efficient fuel. If you would like to find out more about both locations please get in touch as Bio Diesel can be used in any vehicle and as I mentioned previously is up to 90% cleaner than normal diesel!

This month also saw us join the Twitter revolution! You can follow us at www.twitter.com/green_planet

So that is it for April. I promise to have someone else write this next month as my monotone shines through even on the blog.

Keep it green!

Welcome to our Blog for March 09.

Green Planet had an excellent February, we were working hard every day had some really interesting jobs. Eddy spent the end of the month moving a Doctor from Enfield up to Scotland while Danny has been helping Starbucks move fridges from place to place in the South East of the UK. We have been working with Response 2000 and Starbucks and they have been really pleased with our help, phoning in to say how helpful Green Planet has been, which is always nice to hear. We also had our first advertisement in The London Paper which produced a number of calls so keep your eyes out for Green Planet Ads coming to a newspaper near you!!

I on the other hand have been pushing the green side of things and just last week had a meeting with biodiesel company Uptownoil (www.uptownoil.co.uk). Uptown were one of a number of phone calls we received from The London Paper. They are based in London and produce bio diesel readily available for cars, taxi’s and all of our vehicles. I met with Jason Wood and went through the additional benefits of using bio diesel. What sold it for Green Planet was the fact the using a conservative estimate, bio diesel is up to 85% cleaner than normal diesel. Add this to the fact that Uptownoil are carbon neutral by using the wasted oils they collect from local Pubs and restaurants to make their fuel and we just had to sign up.

My next mission is to find recycled plastics to sign write our van. If anyone knows of way to do this please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Roll on GPL, until next time, I bid you farewell.

Here is our 2nd blog entry on the site. As with everyone the snow played major havoc with our working week. We had loads of fun throwing snowballs and building snowmen but unfortunately the roads were too bad for us to go to work!! However the backlog has meant work every day since and getting up at 7am on Sunday was not part of the being our own boss plan.

Since my last entry, Green Planet’s Fleet has expanded and our Ford Transit Luton is now up and running. We couldn’t go down the LPG route as reports of very faulty vans made us wary of buying one so we’re using biodiesel instead of regular diesel. Biodiesel is a cleaner burning fuel made from renewable sources such as vegetable oil. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulphur and aromatics. We are still pursuing the dream of a fully electric fleet and this is our ultimate goal, to travel up and down the country burning no emissions and being a completely carbon neutral company.

I said in our previous blog how we wanted to establish working relationships and this is beginning to happen. We’re doing lots of work as we said for the Lavender Bakery (have a look for valentines, some very thoughtful cupcakes and biscuits). We have been working with established companies such DS Print and Redesign, London Rebel and Union Veneers. All of these companies have been very helpful in giving us work and promoting our business. I briefly mentioned Valentines and having just got engaged it’s another chance for me to spend some hard earned money on my fiancé, lovely!

Until next time, keep blogging!!

Welcome

Welcome bloggers to Green Planet Logistics first ever entry. Happy new year to you all. I am Sam, one of three directors involved in this new company. We are hoping to post an entry every week or so and keep everyone up to date with our mission to save the world.......or at least do our bit to help.

The three founding directors, Danny, Edward and I have been friends for 14 years now and I can vividly remember meeting both in the playground. I never thought we'd be friends this long and I often wonder why and how we made it this far!

It's so far so good for the boys at GPL, we've been busy every day this week and we've been working hard to build customer relationships that will last. We hope that our clients want to lower their carbon footprint by using us but just as importantly we want our clients to really appreciate good customer service and work ethic.

One such customer we've been working with is The Lavender Bakery www.lavenderbakery.co.uk. We delivered 21 boxes of individually baked biscuits made specific and decorated using the names of each client. Michelle can make cakes, cupcakes, biscuits and desserts for any occasion, party or just for the hell of it. Check out her site for ideas but be careful.......it'll make you hungry.

I'll leave you all on that delicious note. Keep on moving.
